BE A LEADER, NOT A MANAGER

Strive combines community engagement, classroom learning, and executive coaching to build the next generation of Silicon Valley leaders

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

TWO COMMUNITY DINNERS • THREE REMOTE CLASSES • TWO EXECUTIVE COACHING SESSIONS

Strive’s Leadership Circles are twelve week-long community-based leadership development programs to help you become the leader you and your team want.

WEEK 1

CIRCLE KICK-OFF DINNER

Meet the other 10-15 members of your cohort in-person to discuss your leadership goals and challenges.

COACHING KICK-OFF

Meet 1:1 with your executive coach to define your values, share your personal and professional path, and kickstart your 360 process.

WEEKS 2-11

Strive’s classes are live but conducted remotely via video conferencing. All classes are interactive – lecturing isn’t allowed. You'll spend your time practicing practical leadership approaches in a low stakes environment and receiving immediate feedback from peers and coaches.

CLASS 1: CONDUCTING CRITICAL CONVERSATIONS

The most important conversations to have are often the most difficult ones. At work, this leads to frustration and dashed expectations. However, having difficult conversations around performance, compensation, mentorship, feedback, and more is a learned skill. We work through several scenarios and share frameworks for approaching those conversations.

CLASS 2: MANAGING UP

Great managers are advocates for themselves and their team, pushing for promotions, resources, opportunities and fighting scope creep. In this class, you will learn both how to advocate, and how to develop high-leverage relationships with advisors, mentors, and sponsors to set a foundation for future advocacy.

CLASS 3: CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Helping reports navigate their careers is often the most high-risk/high-reward part of management. Circle participants will learn to have conversations around the 3Ps of career development: promotions, performance improvement plans, and pathing.

WEEK 12

COACHING – 360 REVEAL + PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Meet your executive coach to discuss your 360 results. You will discuss how others perceive your professional personality and leadership competencies, and develop a personalized professional development plan.

CIRCLE CLOSING

Wrap up the cohort experience with another in-person dinner. You will summarize your learning experience and practice what you’ve learned in role plays with professional actors.

"I didn't realize how energizing and refreshing it could be to talk and workshop through some of the challenges I face to build my career, develop my team, and scale my service/product. The added bonus of having a cohort of peers with whom I could learn alongside, who could challenge me and act as thought partners has given me an invaluable network that I will stay connected with."

SKILLS DEVELOPED

Strive’s Circles combine self-discovery and skill development to help managers become leaders. The self discovery occurs through community engagement and executive coaching (including the 360), while the skill development is largely during the three remote classes.

All three classes are intended to help managers give and receive feedback, a foundational skill for being a great leaders. The three classes are:

CRITICAL CONVERSATIONS

Many managers avoid conflict, failing to give necessary feedback or unblock x-functional roadblocks. Managers will learn to have productive, mutually beneficial difficult conversations.

MANAGING UP

Great managers are advocates for themselves and their team, pushing for promotions, resources, opportunities, and fighting scope creep. You will learn how to advocate and develop high-leverage relationships with advisors, mentors, and sponsors to set a foundation for future advocacy.

CAREER PATHING

Helping reports navigate their careers is often the most high-risk/high-reward part of management. Circle participants will learn to have conversations around promotions, performance improvement plans, and career pathing.
